Title: Scorpio no lights !!!!
Post by Craigo967 on Oct 30th, 2009, 7:06pm
;DHi Guys, new to the site and need to pick your brains. Obviously my fault in the first place, as I can't remember if I checked before when I looked at it.
It's a 1995 2.9 V6 12v Ultima. The car drives really well with no major problems, until I want to go out at night !.
I turn the light switch on and:-
The dash lights come on
The rear lights work
The interior lights and footwell lights work
The lights switch lights come on
When you pull the 'flash' towards you, the blue light on the dash works.
But............
No lights from the front of the car, no dip, no side, no high, no driving lights !!!!!!!!!!
Totally confused and really open to answers.
I have looked around the fuse box and it's dry, just a few leaves which I have cleared. We live in the south of France and it's been a very dry summer, so I'm completely stuck for ideas.
Cheers

Blown fuses or faulty relay I would suspect. Especially when you say the rear lights work.

Hello and welcome to the site. I had exactly the same problem as you have described. At first i thought it was the fuse box, so that was changed for another one but still the same problem. Here's the link to that post hope it helps. If you want to do the same as i did i'll let you know what wires to bridge and which fuse to bridge it too.......... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1248096619;start=14#14 .. By the way does your washer pump work ..  ???

Hi,
??? Thanks for that. Haven't checked the washer pump, will do that in the morning. Are we saying that it is the fuse box then or is it the multiplug ? I need to get the car through a CT (french mot) so if you could tell me how to exactly do the remedy it would be great.
Didn't pay alot for the car and even if this is a bit of a problem, I think I got a bargain, even if things happen in the future.

Cheers

Have you, or anyone else, had the large connector to the main, drivers side, fusebox off??. It MUST be replaced by locating the 'lugs' on the side into the slots on the fusebox body BEFORE you push it down fully. It may APPEAR to be on correctly BUT can be one row of pins out and it will cause similar problems. The saying on here is "If it goes on easily the first time it 'aint on right!". Check that out first. ;)

I'm not saying your problem is the fuse box. As simmo say's check the multiplug first. Also you can check the dash board switch and see if there's any burn marks at the back of the switch. I only remidied the problem by bridging the fuses to get it through the MOT......

Hi,
Yeh I checked the dash board switch and it seems ok, especially as it works the back lights etc, there were no marks on the switch or wires. I'll look at the multi plug in the morning and see how we go.
Thanks for all your advice.

Hi,
Well low and behold, I've gone to the car this morning and tried the washer - nothing. I removed the fuse box cover and made sure that the plug is seated correctly. It seems ok to me, it seems all the way down and in the right place. Now the battery charge light is on aswell !. There is quite an early morning mist here today, but I didn't expect that to happen.
So I am at your mercy and completely out of ideas.
Heeelllllppppp !!!!

Craig. Did you see the lugs on the side of the fusebox and are you SURE the locating pins are held in those lugs BEFORE you push the multiplug down. It can LOOK ok BUT still be one row out. Be sure the thing is seated correctly before looking elsewhere.  ;)

Thanks for that, obviously it wasn't seated properley and there we have it, lights and washers. All that's left is to change a side light bulb.
Thanks again guys. Great advice.
Happy Bunny now !!!   :D ;D

Hi,
It's very true, that you think it's located, but it isn't. Where the connector fits onto the fuse box, nearest the inner wing are two semi circular 'cups'. You must angle the connector down to these (nearest you), locate this, then lower it down to meet the lugs either side of the connector on the box. When you study the box and the connector it makes perfect sense, but if you don't know they are there, you don't see them.
I'm glad someone pointed them out to me. Obviously the pins that worked the front lights and the washer, weren't actually connected to the pin, they were probably sitting about 3mm proud of it.
Thanks again for all your help and when I find my way round the car, hopefully I can help you out someway.
Cheers
