Title: Re: gas or diesel towing Post by Highlander on Nov 12th, 2009, 6:25pm I would say thats a non starter. It CAN be done but converting a diesel engine to run on LPG is going to be VERY expensive and the fuel savings nowhere near as good as the LPG enabled petrol engines. You basically have to introduce spark ignition and machine the heads to accept spark plugs then reduce the compression ratio by fitting a spacer between the heads and the block. Then theres all the electrical stuff and it is a Scorpio... ;) Whats wrong with the diesel for towing? I'm running a 2.3 on LPG just now and it tows exactly like a 2.3 on petrol, i cant tell the difference apart from cost |

Title: Re: gas or diesel towing Post by Highlander on Nov 12th, 2009, 8:53pm How long is a piece of string :) It all depends where, what and how you are towing. Saloon and estate towbars are slightly different and I think you would have insurance issues if you fitted the wrong one and had a claim but they can be made to fit on 11/12/09 at 17:28:43, brownie wrote:

Title: Re: gas or diesel towing Post by martin_rowe on Nov 13th, 2009, 9:14am conversion to diesels can be done, but not very well, they still run on diesel with a percentage of lpg added (approx 15%)it gives good power gains, cleans up emissions, but not suitable for 'round towe' motoring, only good for constant cruise conditions. The other way( as highlander rightly said) is to convert your diesel engine into a petrol engine (ignition system, throttle system, reduce compression ect) |
