Title: Manual to Auto swap?
Post by ro284 on Nov 23rd, 2009, 5:57pm
Hi Guys, I like an auto box in luxury cars like my Ultima's, both estates 1 2-3 and 1 2-9, but i also like to get a low mileage car, the 2-9 has only done 70K while my work car has done 140K, So always on the look-out i found a nice 2-3 with only 64K on the clock, obviously i would prefer a 24v Cosworth, but a 2-3 will have to do! but this one is a manual, How big a job is it to replace the gearbox with an Auto? any major pitfalls or unforseeable problems? Any advice please?
Cheers Bob

Soooo many bits to do..... wiring, ECU, radiator, cooler pipes, pedal box, floorpan mods and shifter plus tranny converter and driveplate.

My advice is wait until a nice auto car comes up for sale ;)

It is a lot of work  but not impossible

The main difference is the engine loom and ecu  is completly different  and uness you have specialist tools you couldnt just swap a loom from a scrap automatic

And there are a lot of other parts you will need to do the conversion

its easier to go from manal to auto than it auto to manual  but unless you have done similar conversions before its best to look for an auto
