Title: Parking Sensors
Post by mondeoman on Nov 25th, 2009, 6:36pm
My wife's not happy she has all the accessories for her Scorpio, except the parking sensors. She has hinted that she would like some for Xmas. Why do the women always have the better cars?  :-/

I fancy getting her the 8 sensor kit mentioned on this site with some great fitting instructions. I was wondering, if the front sensors are really worth the extra effort fitting?

I notice you can get an accessory for the kit to stop the bleep when selecting drive as you have to move through to the reverse gear. is it a real pain and how easy is that to fit to the standard kit?

Cheers,

Mondeoman

The kit that i got, the rear sensors were easy to fit, ( all the wires in the boot end ) as for the front sensors, i never fitted them cause the wiring wasn't long enough to go to the boot,
And the front sensors work off the brake lights, so when your parking up to another car you touch the brake and the alarm will activate.......... Got mine off ebay for £17 + PP.........Same as this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-CAR-REVERSING-PARKING-SENSORS-2-FRONT-4-REAR-w-BUZZER_W0QQitemZ190351935103QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2c51dc067f

Don't underestimate front sensors. The only time in my life i have crashed  a car was when reversing on a small summer cottage yard. I reversed and didn't look where the front was going (combination of stress and hurry), of course towards a tree. The result: right front wing, bumper, xenon headlight, bonnet. Around 4000 euros to fix for the insurance. Luckily the policy had no penalty or incresed fees on claims.

That sensor kit is cheap the one I'm looking at which is shown on this site is over £100. Is it easy to damage the bumpers when drilling, or is the plastic not brittle/weak etc?

There is a hole saw supplied with the kit, it goes through like a hot knife through butter.

Well rightly or wrongly I've bought the Dolphin Elite 8 sensor kit for Xmas.
