Title: Front sidelight bulb replacement
Post by Kenboy on Dec 27th, 2009, 11:54am
I have a blown front sidelight bulb that I have spent a frustrating time trying to remove and replace and although this may seem rediculous I am going to have to seek your advice on the best way to remove I assumed that could rotate the bulb holder and withdraw and simply replace or doe's the lens have to be removed I have to say I intend to remove the lens to clean and tried following the instructions that Snoopy so kindly sent me and have located three of the four holding clips I know the fourth is underneath but how do you get to it.

Kenboy. In my view the easiest way to deal with removing the lens is to remove the headlamp unit. It is held by THREE bolts Two are accessible from the engine bay and the third is best got at by removing the fog light/indicator unit and using a long extension.
The two bolts are shown Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/electrical/exterior/Headlampsremins.pdf) but the third is not mentioned!!.
Bulb details are shown Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook122.gif)

As Simmo states he has advised removing the headlamp unit but the fourth clip is accessed by ling on your back with head under bumper and looking upwards the clip can be seen quite clearly and is easily accessible with a small screw driver to release the clip. The help of a third hand is sometimes advisable but the process is easily achieved by one person.

Thanks for your input but is it necessary to remove the lens to replace the side light bulb or does it just pull out from the back, try as I may although the bulb holder rotates I am unable to withdraw I will eventualy remove the lens for cleaning when good weather permits but I do need to replace blown bulb soonest, in other words has anyone changed the front sidelight bulbs and how.

See handbook HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook122.gif) which tells you the side light bulb is a PUSH fit

Hi well I have replaced the sidelght bulb and indeeed the lens has to be removed I have to say I was surprised the trouble involved in doing this. Jack the car up (Hydraulic) then secure with axle stands, crawl underneath to get at that fourth securing clip, freezing weather  maybe I am getting to old for this but I wonder what a garage wouild have charged to change a £1.50 Bulb at first I was quite convinced the bulb would have been accessed from the behind, but we live and learn, well at least I do lastly thanks for your patiance before my penny finally dropped.

Ken.
To replace the sidelight bulb in future, take the cover off the back of the headlamp and pull out the little black plastic bulb holder,no need to twist, just pull.

/\   As Gozz says above   /\

I was able to change one of mine that way, took me just a couple of minutes.
