Title: EEC unit reset?
Post by geoff_bateman on Feb 24th, 2010, 10:19pm
I've had some wiring faults recently which has resulted in cables between the ignition module and the EEC shorting together. There were other problems as well with the HEGOs so I guess the faults will have been logged on the EEC. Having now hopefully rectified these problems will the EEC unit recognise that the systems are working OK and go back to normal working or will it stay in some sort of default mode until the error codes are cancelled using a computer?

Best way to reset the ECU is to unhook the battery for a little while. When you re-connect the battery the ECU will be set back to factory settings & the car will probably run a little ropey for 5-10 miles while it re-learns it's parameters  :)

Thanks I'll try that later today. :)

after reconnecting the battery its best to let it idle for 5 mins, with out revving it, as JC says they run a bit ropey and allowing an idling time seems to reduce the learn period  :)

Well thanks again. I've done what you suggested, left the battery disconnected for about 3 hours, just to make sure. When I reconnected and started it up it seemed to be ticking over more smoothly, it had been hunting slightly before and now it seems to have stopped, sits steady on the tacho (now fixed - thanks again). I'll be taking it out tomorrow for a bit of a run so fingers crossed. Once again thanks everybody. :)

Drove the car today for a few miles and it seems to be running better, thanks a lot. :)
