Title: Remote reprogramming
Post by tonyboy on Mar 21st, 2010, 10:17pm
Just read somewhere that.......... If the code of the remote control is cancelled, it can be reprogrammed by holding down one of the remote control buttons and unlocking one of the doors with a key within ten seconds..... As my key dosn't open the door i can't try it.. Has anyone tried this method......

The only method that works is the 0->1 3 or 4 times, hear a beep, press unlock, turn to 0, hear a beep, you're done.

What I've got is remove batteries, replace (or new); key in ignition, turn to I, press "unlock", dashboard makes "chime" noise, done.

That's very interesting, cos it does on mine! ;D

Somewhere along the line it must have changed latterly.

There was quite a debate long ago about this, but mine only allows reprogramming fobs with the red key :)

The method indicated above is recommended as it works for all.
Other methods may/may not work depending on the car/remote.

I thought the method you gave worked for my remote, but it turned out that it wasn’t necessary as mine will still work after a couple of presses no matter how long the batteries have been out of the remote or how many times it had been pressed out of range of the car.

I do however need to go through the recommended way to get 2 remotes to work.

tlundkvi,

thanks for the method, it works!
However, I seem to have a small problem. I have two key fobs. One, my regular one, was working fine but the spare was not. I changed the batteries, in the spare, just in case and then carried out your reprogramming method and it works. But my regular remote now doesn't. Hmm so I reprogramme that one and hey it works again but now the spare one doen't! I tried this a few times and it seems that each time I reprogramme one, the other stops working. Is the 'key code' different each time you reprogramme which would explain why the other fob does not work now, old key code.
Can you have two up and running at the same time? cannot see why not, and if so how to I get both to work?

Hi, to programme both my remote fobs I just pressed the unlock button on one and then on the other, after doing the key to position one bit. both now work without any problems. hth.

Hi Highlander, yep, still alive, just been busy with work and decorating in the house, also in the middle of a full ground up rebuild of the Norton to show standard, and getting the scorp through its MOT, took new sills and the small intermediate strip between the sills and the floorpan this time around though.

Cheers Bikerdon. I should have thought of that, and I would have thought of it.....eventually

Now I have just got to load the car up for my epic journey to work tomorrow. You'd think I was driving to the North Pole, however a Scorpio is not the ideal vehicle for snowy conditions.

Top Tip No1. Everyone goes out and buys expensive salt for their paths and drives. Instead of Saxa etc try getting the cheapest dishwasher salt. Much, much cheaper.
