Title: 24V hydraulic lifters / hydraulic ram
Post by te_ess on Apr 2nd, 2010, 5:58pm
Hi everyone,

I turned my 24V on for the first time this year and made a test-drive.
The engine runs well and round in idle.,
only at idle you can hear a faint tickern noise with open hood.
When I drive and accelerate (eg, from 1250 to 2000 rpm) you can hear this tock-tock-tock very clearly and loud inside. Having the above revs without acceleration makes the noise disappear. In gear position P or N the noise is not audible at above revs.

In search of the noise source, I believe that it is not a chain, but perhaps from the first or 2nd Cylinder. the passenger side.
This is the same side where i have the chain tensioner issue when starting.

Is that a hydraulic ram (or lifter? don't know the english name for it.. i mean the hydraulic "link" between the valves and camshafts) , which is going to "die"? I unfortunately do not know the typical symptoms and sound of a broken hydraulic ram.

As i'm going to fix the chain tensioner soon anyway, i'm interested if I can exchange the rams from top - eg without removing the cylinder heads.

Greetings
 Torsten
