Tony, More likely a loss of fluid I would have thought. If you suspect air then raise the front slightly, just enough to take the weight off the tyres, then turn from lock to lock a few times but DO NOT hold it on full lock as this will do the seals no good!. Is the pump working ?.

What happend was the fluid ran low and when i noticed it with the engine running, it was like bubbling in the reservoir. So i topped it up and since then the steering has been a bit stiff, Not too stiff that you have to struggle to turn it

Tony, have you found the source of the leak??. A common one is the pipe from the reservoir but that is visible. The other one which is not so obvious is that fluid will leak from the rack into the steering gaiters. They will hold a fair amount and will swell up before eventually bursting or leaking. If you squeeze them you will feel the fluid ,if it is there, moving. If the fluid level continues to drop without an obvious, visible, leak that is the likely location. The remedy,if so, is a new rack. Keep us informed. Good luck, Mike.

Hello. Steerings still a bit stiff, had a check of the steering gaitors and feel as if they are hollow i.e. nothing squidgy. havn't been loosing anymore oil, and it looks as if it's pumping the oil around looking in the reservoir, unless thats just the vibration of the engine...........

Tony. Just realised that you have a Cosworth. These are fitted with a speed sensitive system which has additional features to all other models. Have a read of This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/powersteering.htm) which may help. Could the electrical connector have become detached?.
This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/steermanual.htm) may help even more.
