Title: aircon pump
Post by gost on May 15th, 2010, 12:39pm
Hi gents , well the saga continues, after taking out relay for aircon I thought my probs would be over, but now it seems as tho the compressor part is still turning and making noise, went to FMD this morning to see if i could get a shorter non aircon belt but was told they dont do one. The mechanic overheard and suggested using 2.3 transit belt, so iv ordered one from local factor, do u think that will fit and work??

Bruce.
If you peg the tensioner up,remove the belt and wrap a tape measure around the pulleys excluding the compressor, you will be able to get a belt from a motor factor to fit.Almost all sizes are available, all grooves are standard, only the width differs, make sure you take the correct route round the pulleys.
When Pete from Hull sold me his 2.3 he had experienced an aircon compressor problem,in the boot was a short belt which could well have been used to isolate the compressor. If I can find it you can have it,the car is presently on loan to one of my offspring who suffered (a happening) to her Mondeo !!!
In the meantime see how you get on,p'raps talk to Pete from Hull, and we will reconvene later.Keep in touch

p.s. if the Tranny's pulleys are the same size you,ve scored, but many have aircon as well.
