Hi All
Just had my 24v cosworth serviced and mot'd at my local ford dealer and when looking at the invoice i noticed that they had charged me for 6 litres of 5w-30 oil.
According to the owners guide oil capacity including filter is 4.5 litres and it says to use 10w-30.
Who is right? Owners guide or local ford dealer?

10w30 has been superseded by 5w30 semi synthetic,capacity with filter change is 4.5lt.There is much written about fancy lubricants which weren't invented as a normal option at that time.

Invoice says 1 litre 5w-30 oil £6.95 x6 £41.70 + vat
So I guess that they use 1 litre bottles to make it more profitable for themselves.
Should i go back and complain about the use of 6 litres of oil when the most i should have been charged for is 5 litres?
Its not the money that bothers me its the fact that they might have put more oil in the car than is neccessary
and if one more mechanic calls my car a granada then i will scream. Not that i have anything against granadas i don't. I have driven nothing else all the time i have had a license.
Mark 1 2 3 and now Scorpios. One of them even called it a mondeo!

I've told the story on here before when i went into FMD for 24v oil filters (the only time I ever go) and when I came back out two mechanics from the service area who looked about 14 were walking round it , when they saw it was mine they asked me what it was!!

I told them I wouldn't be bringing it to them to get any work done!! ;)

On a similar vein, another funny one from the small garage next door to where I work...

Was watching the old chap working on an old Suzuki SJ jeep as I have one of those too, he removed the points and was heading over to the office to order a new set when he suddenly stopped, held them out in his hand and asked the young apprentice if he knew what they were... he hadn't a clue!! although the very same apprentice is a genius with the diagnostics/electronics ;)

makes you feel old doesnt it ;)

I would definately complain - either you have been charged for oil they didn't put in your engine or they put too much in which is not good either !

Service manager should be offering you some freebies and chomping on a large portion of humble pie.

They Charged
£129.99 for service and mot
£49.95 For air con recharge and deodorizer
£703.00 for new pads and discs front and rear and new front flexible brake pipes
Bought car last june for £1000 3 weeks later water leak from engine. Took ford 3 weeks to source parts needed. Repair bill for engine and 2 rear brake pipes that needed doing £1040.00
But i do love these cars so much and S92 MBK drives and looks awesome!
Will call at dealers first thing tues morning.
Should i avoid driving the car or should i just drain out the oil and refill with the correct amount of fresh oil?

re the 6 litres quote. they've more than likely quoted you for a mondeo. the diesel and maybe the v6 use a lot of oil. only an idea.

Will check it later this morning. Not very happy with ford though. Won't be having car serviced there again.
Not really bothered about cost of the oil just the fact that if they have put too much oil in then the resulting damage that could occur!

Personally I wouldn't go to any Ford dealer local to me. (North Scotland) There is no competition so they just do cars as they like, and treat customers as they like. I know this for a fact, the local dealers are only interested in servicing and fault repairing vehicles less than three years old. I'm a wee bit fortunate that the parts department manager was one of my engineering apprentices about twenty years ago, so I can generally go and ask questions and get information without too much fuss. If your not fortunate enough to be able to do routine maintenance on your car, then find a local garage, or maybe not so local that has a good reputation by word of mouth, and make sure they actually know what the car is just by looking at it! I'm sick of people calling mine a Granada too, I've even had a student ask me how I converted my Yank car to a right hand drive!

As PJ say I have found a good local garage and we put both cars there for MoT or major jobs. Llandudno Junction Ford never heard of a Scorpio and keep calling Granda Scorpio, then wonder why the parts are different, now found a good FMD for parts anyway.

I am somewhat stunned by that service bill have to say, I agree with PJ TBH, I'm lucky I've used the same mechanic guy for the past 20+ years, he's self employed so can't afford to faff about. For MOT's he takes it over to a Ford expert near Shoeburyness who knows more about 'em and not make silly assumptions. Plus he's got the FDS2000 ;D

Best way guys, once you find a good local garage stick to them, they are getting few and far between now.
