when iv'e drove a few miles, switch off the engine, and sit in the car, i start to hear these noises, some go click, some sound like , all i can describe is like a spring unwinding. Sounds like the car winding down, and it's still doing it even after a couple of hours standing still...... what are these noises.......... ???

A Cossie I had, made fairly loud expansion noises when warming up,and similar contraction noises when cooling down,but I don't remember it lasting two hours.I assumed that all 24v engines were prone to it,and that it was the exhaust system.

my range rover used to do that (not for 2 hours tho)i just assumed it was the engine cooling down . only did after a fairly long trip tho

Dont think it's the engine, it sounds as if it's coming from the thingypit area, more in the radio area......

Could it be a minute electrical short throwing sparks, but not enough to blow the fuse? If so, it could eventually cause a fire.

Scary.......... I am having a few electrical probs... These noises have been with the car since iv.e had it....

Shorting at the back of the ashtray is a known issue – it is permanently live so things can still happen with the ignition off. Try opening the ashtray or pulling the cigar lighter fuse (43 in the auxiliary fusebox) & see if it still does it.

Is this is sunshine? Could be warming up / cooling down

E.g. since my rear bumper was changed it can make quite loud "donking" noises when the sun is shining on it and expands it. And the reverse when it cools of course

Hello. Finally found out today where the strange noise is comming from ( felt a bit stupid when i realised what it is ) It's the clock when the minute hand moves. It makes that sort of springy noise :-[
