Title: Heater Matrix supplier
Post by TaperOne on Jun 29th, 2010, 5:43pm
HI All,
Not posted for a while now, but I am pleased to say that the Scorpio is still going strong after about six years of ownership and she is running sweet with minimal maintenance during that time....................

However, after changing the heater matrix about 8 months ago, the b*****d thing has burst.

The one I fitted was a brand new one (£73) manufactured by Valeo. Trouble is I bought it about 4 years ago, so no warranty and I can't even remember where I got it from.

So, does anyone know of a reputable supplier?

The Big Boss is starting to worry that winter is coming soon!!!!!

Cheers

Pete H

This place has been mentioned, but I've not used them myself:

Right, just called Kempston Rads and the news is not good. Talked to a very helpful chap who knew exactly what I was asking for (scorp with CC)and said that they can no longer get them. He said that they may be able to make one but I have to call back Monday. Any other suppliers, anyone? I can't be scrapping this car over a heater matrix, surely.

Cheers,

I can give you a second hand one Pete but its a fair size job to be fitting a used part,
I dunno if even I would do that and I use second hand brake discs and pads, spark plugs and air filters! ;)

People say the non AC ones go in with a bit of adjustment, but I have no idea what’s involved, they’re also shorter.
You could ask if Kempston Rads have a shorter one that’s the same height & width. You would then need to pack the end out with foam/polystyrene to stop the cold air getting round the end.

The non-CC matrix is about £13 from buypartsby - obviously a pattern part - and the same part number is also listed for the Sierra.
Interestingly they also list another one for the Sierra for about £88 'with extra cooling capacity ??? I wonder...

Cheers for the replies Guys.

You are right Highlander, its not a good idea to fit a second hand one. I am still cursing the last time I fitted one. What a pig of a job and I cannot believe I have got to do it again!!!!
I am going to give my local motor factors a chance and give them a call as I know them really well.
Can someone give me the dimensions of a CC one so as I can check the matrix that they might supply me? If not then it looks like Mr Henry Ford will get my hard earned wonga.

Cheers

Can anyone confirm that Ford P No. 1041093 is correct for a Scorpio with CC? My local motor factors has one in stock.

Cheers for that Scorpio Man. I thought it was too good to be true that they had one in stock. I think the number I had is for AC, not CC. I shall call them again.

There’s a very long thread here:
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1228243996;start=0

The part no. freddieboy gives (middle of page 3) is 4001250 from Kempston rads, whether that was the long or the short one I don’t know (bearing in mind his old one may not have been right).

Fred’s old matrix has the ford logo & 85GG18B539CB moulded into the plastic.

The measurements L measured from the face of the plastic flange inc. pipe bends (bracketed not inc. bends) H & W measured at the end plate (same size for the whole length):
L 285 (272) H42 W135

I have a longer one I bought on ebay which is supposed to be for cars with CC, it has the ford logo but just a smeared paper label 95?W 18?539 AE:
L303 (290) H42 W135

If you google 95GW18B539AE you may find something like this:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:YlI9DCq71NUJ:www.kuehlerhandel.de/index.php%3Fcat%3Dc33533_Ford-Scorpio.html+95gw18B539ae&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

You’ll probably find supplies quote the size of the matrix which will be about 10mm less than I’ve given as I've includes the depth of the shoulder of the plastic mounting flange.
