Title: minimum wiring required to run
Post by c20spit on Jul 4th, 2010, 9:50am
hello, i'm after a bit of help, at the moment i'm putting a 2.3 16v manual in my bedford cf mk1 ambulance, i'll be studying the wiring diagrams on this forum for many days  as i never realised there was no haynes manual for the car. my question ( first of many ) what is the minimum amount of wiring to get the engine running, obviously the engine loom , thats seperate anyway. from the multiplug  is where it wil get really interesting so if anyone has any info that may help steer me in the right direction so i know what i'm looking for it would be much appreciated, thanks.

Isn't Dave2302 going through this same sort of hassle with his Puma conversion?

IIRC the bugbear is the PATS thingy

youll need to convert over the full pats system or go stand alone

I'm by no means any expert on these things but seems to me you'll need the PCM module, which I think on later types includes the PATS built in as it were, so also need the same ignition lock and surrounding field coil, and same keys obviously; and the ignition module. What would worry me is the fuel supply, Scorpio has the pump actually immersed in the fuel tank and which pressurizes the injector rail in conjunction with a control valve (the "overflow" is returned to the tank I believe), and the fuel pressure is quite critical. Think that's right anyway.

You basicaly only need the engine loom all the attached modules the battery fusebox and the short lead from the engine loom multiplugs to the pats pick up on the steering column and a working key .

I put a 2.0 16v auto from a 95 Scorpio into a 1990 Sierra a couple of years ago and i never had any problems

Fuel pump in the tank is common on injected engines, scroll down here for reasons why:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_pump

I wouldn't normally post wiki but it says much as I've read elsewhere.

thanks, thats somewhee to start with., i have the whole donor car and it was running, glad i didn't just buy an engine and box. i'll use an external fuel pump and regulator though, not quite the same as slamming a pinto in and twiddling with the webber.

megasquirt or microsquirt ecu would be best, forget pats & keys.

think i may go megasquirt, i used kronenburg in my redtop spitfire and it was a doddle, m/s is cheaper though. i take it that the crank is 36-1 , whatdoes the camshaft sensor do, will it be needed?
