Title: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:29am I am about to do an engine swap on a 96 Scorpio remove the 2.3 & manual box as it has a cracked block after the manifold cracked and previos owner boiled it to the point it stopped and wouldnt run . I am not fitting another Scorpio engine but a 2.0 DOHC auto out of a J reg Granada . Mechanicaly & electricly it will all bolt together without problem but i am a bit unsure of the dash ? i have read that the ECU stores the vehicle mileage and the speedo doesnt has anybody else had any problems doing conversions ? thanks |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Tons_of_fun on Jul 6th, 2010, 1:21pm Dont know if this helps, but i fitted the speedo from the red scrapper to my last cossie saloon ( just to see what happened ). It displayed the mileage that was true to the scrapper ( not the cossie ). So i guess you could say the speedo stores the mileage.HTH... Craig :-) |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by gozz on Jul 6th, 2010, 5:24pm Stixy. I put the panel(low series with no computer)out of a Cossie limo into a 12v limo, the panel retained the Cossie mileage. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Jul 6th, 2010, 7:50pm Oh well i will find out soon :) 2.3 manual is out http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q289/the_fomoco_kid/SN858708.jpg And the 2.0 Auto is waiting http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q289/the_fomoco_kid/SN858703.jpg |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by gozz on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:31pm Stixy. Have you got the gear box electrics sorted,is it the old A4LD ? if not I would think there could be considerable complexity.I see it has the mechanical speedo drive,so imagine it is the old box. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:41pm I have the complete EEC-IV engine/auto box loom from the J reg . it was a twin fusebox model and it uses the same plugs in the battery fusebox that the 2.3 does so it will just plug in just a few wires to sort behind the dash . The engine in the pic is from a H reg Sierra it has done less miles than the Granada engine .it uses a vss and a mechanical speedo so its just a case of using an old vss to plug the extra hole and fit a drive pinion from a 2.3 autobox to the other vss then the selector and rod from the J reg . Because the engine i am using is from a H reg car it wont need a Cat |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by gozz on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:46pm Going catless has got to be a bonus, will it be OK at the MOT place having a later reg number ? GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Highlander on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:49pm I FINK the emissions testing depends on the engine rather than the car so it would be tested as an H reg engine |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Jul 6th, 2010, 8:51pm My MOT man says it goes on the age of the engine . As long as the engine didnt come out of anything newer than a K reg it wont need a cat test |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Jul 7th, 2010, 7:06pm I removed the 2.3 engine loom today and fitted the Granada engine loom . All the fusebox plugs were the same but the multiplugs inside are different so i made up a lead to connect the three together . All the dash works as it should and it shows the same mileage as before so it seems the mileage info is stored in the dash on 16v models |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Aug 21st, 2010, 7:39pm Its in :) Not quite the nut & bolt fit job that i thought it would be but they never are . A tip for anybody if converting a manual to auto if the car has a three piece propshaft remove the extra mounts before fitting the engine & box http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q289/the_fomoco_kid/SN859084.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q289/the_fomoco_kid/SN859093.jpg Still a few bits to do yet . |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Aug 22nd, 2010, 2:12pm It runs :) everything seems to be ok apart from the rev counter is reading aprox 800-1000 rpm faster than it should be The only difference i can see is the car now has a single ignition coil instead of 2 coilpacks . Anybody any idea's |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Matt on Aug 22nd, 2010, 5:15pm ive read some where that cars with the dissy cap do run faster then the Edis systems, cant remember if it should be that much though |

Hi Matt thanks for the reply . the engine tickover is fine its steady and sounds about right for this type of engine its jus the erratic high reading rev counter thats the problem . I have looked through the wiring diagrams and all engines except the 4 cylinder have an engine type resister in the engine loom i guess this is what tells the dash which engine is fitted . |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Stixy on Aug 22nd, 2010, 7:19pm I have tried 3 sets of clocks and there all the same |

Title: Re: Mechanicaly Modified Scorpio's ? Post by Matt on Aug 22nd, 2010, 7:54pm have you tried fitting the crank sensor off the old 2.3? |

There different so are the trigger wheels on the crank . The signal from the crank sensor to the ecu and ecu to TFi module is fine . Its just the Scorpio dash cant make sense of the signal its getting from the coil . i am going to try a variable resister in the rev counter feed to see if it makes a difference |
