So, I cleaned the condenser and evaporator with one of those foaming cleaners (make was FMC I think) and decided to check the vent temps after (18c outside temp btw):-

-0.1c!

It even created condensation on the OUTSIDE of the windscreen!

Then I decided to see if the heater was working properly so cranked it up full:-

That'll do.

So, full bill of health then, and I've not had the air con topped up since I bought the car 14 months ago. just need to keep an eye on the evaporator to ensure it doesn't ice up as it seems a bit on the cool side!

Quite a productive day, changed the front drop links as well. I owe a pint to the guy that invented angle grinders!

Sounds a great result. A bit late now but have a read of 'Knocking noises' in Problems

Already read that and tried the bent spanner and still wouldn't budge. Besides, I'll take any excuse to get the angle grinder out :-)
