Title: Weird steering wheel vibration
Post by tlundkvi on Jul 23rd, 2010, 10:22am
I was driving calmly in 4th and suddenly I got light, but noticeable light vibration in the steering wheel. It felt like the road first, but OTOH I drive there often so I ruled that out. It lasted for 3 minutes and disappeared and never since returned. The vibration was completely vertical, no pulling in any direction.

I thought of the cattle grid effect, but shouldn't that be during shifting? I had been driving in 4th for a while already when it started.

tlundkvi.
Had the car been jacked up with the front wheels dangling ? they usually get a temporary strange vibration in the steering then.

The strange vibration Gozz mentioned, in my experience, only happens when turning  :)

Maybe a large stone got stuck in your tyre tread, causing a slight wheel imbalance ?  :-/

Yes it was different from the jack up syndrome and I jacked it last time two weeks ago. Hopefully it was just something like a stone, not a surprise considering the thread pattern.
