Title: 2.3 engine number
Post by Jonnycab on Jul 24th, 2010, 3:50am
Maybe I'm being a bit daft, but does anyone know whereabouts the engine number is supposed to be stamped on the 2.3 engine ?.....I've looked, but can't find  :-[

This car was fitted with a new 2.3 (Galaxy) engine by the previous owner, about a year before I bought it (4 years ago)....& do you know what ?....I've never bothered to check the new engine number against what is written on the V5  ::)

It would help if I could find the darn thing though, just for peace of mind  :)

JC. I did a quick search on Google and This (http://fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9898&start=0) is one of many which came up. May help in the absence of anyone with specific knowledge....Highlander??.
The location is referred to in This article (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/vin.htm) on the forum.

Had a look at where the engine number is & it is completely illegible.... even after carefully scraping off the brown paint of the replacement galaxy engine there is only just bits of number indentations, but nothing you can make out  ::)

Anywhere else on the engine that may carry the engine number stamp ?

Think thats the only place Jonny.

cant you see it at all? they usually stand out pretty well.

Must be a stolen one with the number scrubbed of it! ;)

A wipe over the area where its stamped with some acid might make it stand out a little better. Wear gloves and be careful !

I recall something like acid being used in 'American Graffiti' to make an engine number disappear !!!

I had an engine in my Sunbeam Rapier many years ago - bought it s/h from a guy breaking a Hillman Hunter GLS - Holbay engine, twin 40DCOE's - nice :-)

Block didn't have a number - turned out the engine had thrown a rod when the car was fairly new and the engine had been rebuilt under warranty with a brand new factory engine block which as a spare part did not come with a serial number.
