Title: Replace A4LDE frontpart without special tool?
Post by te_ess on Jul 31st, 2010, 7:28pm
Hi guys,

just bought a Cossie BOB + A4LDE.
unfortantly the A4LDE has a broken houseing near the connection to the motor. it is missing a roughly 10x5 cm part. i think they were to rough during dismount. It is not really that critical but i would prefer having a good and nice looking one :-)

After removing the torque converter from the Autobox i could detach the front housing with the oilpump attached to it from the autobox.

I know there is a special tool required for centering the oilpump. But when do i need it ? only for reattching the oilpump to the front housing or also when assembling front housing and main housing?

to make a long story short.

do i need the special alignment tool if i detach fronthousing + oilpump and reattach one from another gearbox?

greetings
 Torsten

The complete auto box manual is HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/autotrans.htm) In there it will detail the removal and refit procedure of the whole gearbox including dis assembly and reassembly.

Hope it helps

Many thanks,

according to steps 126 to 130 of the overhaul manual, the special tool is only necessary, if you dissabmle the oilpump from the torque converter housing.

but when leaving the pump attached to the torque converter housing, no allignment seems to be necessary.
