Title: 24v to 2wd MT75 box - clutch advice needed
Post by myrs200 on Aug 9th, 2010, 5:34pm
Hi
I have a cossy 24v which I'm fitting to a rwd MT75 hybrid (v6 front/2lt rear) box
along with a 2.8 flywheel
I need to use a hydraulic clutch
I don't have a slave cylinder as yet - does anyone know if the later concentric slave works or do I have to use an external slave - I need to purchase whichever I need if anyone has one.

Matt would be the best person to ask as he has just finished a similar conversion. Sadly he is on holiday at the moment so probably wont be back on for another week or so. With regards to the clutch i know he is running an escort cosworth item at the moment, but dont think it,s really up to the job. A couple of hard launches will soon have it slipping !!!

ello

right then heres my setup regarding clutch, brake fluid tank replaced with the TD one (all the manuals are the  same) with the clutch take off point,

TD pipe work and TD concentric slave, but you need to have the bell housing modified with 3 blobs of weld in order to bolt it on and use the TD front nut to center it on the input shaft

escort clutch is pants, the friction plate is ok but the spring plate isnt up to the job and mine is a genuine ford item,

dont bother with top boss they wont give you any advice other then give you a quote to do the work, tried them when i did mine and wasnt impressed by their reply  >:(

Hi Matt
would I be correct in that the 3 welds are to be drilled/tapped for the concentric to be bolted to - once in place and centred by being tightend using the TD front nut. If not could you explain with a bit more detail.

Your spot on there mate, the TD nut has to be used as its machined to center the bearing, its also shorter then the fork arm type

Re: the clutch

I threw up the idea a while ago about using the Scorpio diesel clutch for the manual 24v box but it was deemed not suitable.

Some of the guys on the Transit forum are reporting good results in using the Transit TD clutch for their 24v/MT75 conversions (mostly BOA, one or two BOB)

when we coverted one nearley twentey years ago we just used the s/h clutch that come from the doner car a police mk 3 .2wd. mt75 so maybe h/d to start with ??.and its still ok after a lot of h/d towing over the years.we tryed  a type 9 flyweel but had problems .had to go back and get the thicker mt75 flyweel.
