Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by gozz on Aug 16th, 2010, 9:39am I couldn't agree more 5stud.It has not hitherto worried me as none of my funeral vehicles were ultima based, however I bought a limo last week which is,and as it will be driven by numerous people, the silly mirror will need disconnection before there is a reversing disaster !! The point is that any experienced driver is just not used to mobile mirrors and moves his head accordingly.Presumably if we disconnect the 'down' wire there will be adjustment problems, what we must do is find out where the reverse switch wire intersects with it.If anyone has done this, please enlighten us,it may be a while before I am able to get to grips with it. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Stixy on Aug 16th, 2010, 10:40am Yes its a pain The module under the drivers seat seems to control this as when the module is unplugged the mirror doesnt move but i am not sure if a reverse lamp feed goes to the module or if its part of the multiplex system ? |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Simmo on Aug 16th, 2010, 11:51am There are wiring diagrams Here (http://www.drich2422.ukfsn.org/SCORPIO_WIRING%20DIAGRAMS/INTERIOR_TRIM/) if that helps. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Tompion on Aug 16th, 2010, 7:12pm If you disconnect one of the 2 plugs to the mirror (behind the passenger door trim) it will stop the dipping but retain adjustment. I think it’s the black plug – if it’s the white one you’ll loose the heated mirror. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Mike H on Aug 17th, 2010, 7:30pm Not having that function, I (wrongly) assumed it would show a better view of the nearside rear corner and maybe rear wheel area, but apparently not ;D |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by gozz on Aug 17th, 2010, 11:07pm You are quite right Mike, however it loses rearward vision,so if an obstacle presents it's self in the interior mirror blind spot there is a fair chance of striking it.There is ample view of the kerb without the silly facility ! GOZZ. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by PJDavis on Aug 18th, 2010, 5:39pm I would agree that this item is useless. However, in common with most on here I suspect, I use my mirrors for reversing. I think mainly because I have an HGV 1 licence over a normal licence. Mind you, when my Gal drives the car, she doesn't use her mirrors for reversing because she finds it difficult. (As I think the majority of Gals would) She finds the 'dipping-mirror' great, because she can look at it whilst looking over her shoulder to get the rear wheel close to the kerb without graunching it off the kerb or mounting the paving. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Baz on Aug 20th, 2010, 11:41pm The dipping function can be disabled in the on board computer display on my S Class..... it was the first thing I turned off..... the second was the "leave the radio on for ten seconds after you take the key out" function! |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by gozz on Sep 10th, 2010, 8:30pm I have had time to play with the silly mirror and have disabled it,the wiring is thus:- UP White/Red pos Brown neg DOWN Brown pos White/Red neg IN Grey/Violet pos Brown neg OUT Brown pos Grey/Violet neg The two remaining wires Black and Violet/Black are for the heater element. All these wires are in the WHITE plug, the early cars only having the one plug. Later cars with the big black door modules have a BLACK plug, this is the one controlling the reverse dipping mirror,as Tompion stated in an earlier post,if that plug is disconnected the mirrors stay put,but all other mirror functions are retained. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Toriitom on Sep 10th, 2010, 9:48pm Gozz, I understood that in Ford cars the Brown wires are all Earths (Negative). It does appear to be silly to have Browns as both Positive and Negative. Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm always wrong, so the missus tells me. Tom |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by gozz on Sep 10th, 2010, 10:17pm Tom. The polarities are reversed to allow the motors to run both ways, there is no'earth'as such, similar to the motors on the window winders.Everyones Mrs says they are wrong, after all think of the satisfaction we give them by agreeing ::) GOZZ. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by freddieboy on Sep 14th, 2010, 6:10am I must be abnormal (no comments please!). I find it helpful when reversing so as to not scrape the sixteen spokes against the kerb. I suppose I`ve just got used to it. Its also handy for spotting dogturds! |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by Simmo on Dec 10th, 2010, 5:15pm The easiest way to open up the plastic membrane which waterproofs the innards of the door is to neatly slice it with a stanley knife along the line of the adhesive. That way you avoid the 'goo' and it is easy to reseal it,which you should do,with something like Gaffa tape when the job is done. If you are messing with the mirror wiring note the route it takes. I've known it put back the wrong side of the window strut and thus the window won't lift correctly!! ::) This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/interior/trim/Fdoortrim.pdf) has the door panel removal details. |

Title: Re: most useles item on a ultima is Post by 5stud on Dec 16th, 2010, 9:07am can confirm its the black plug.ford even put a small flap in the membrane just in the right place to do the job without having to cut the membrane. |
