Title: Advice on car sellers responsibility Post by ro284 on Sep 18th, 2010, 8:57pm Hi Guys,Hoping some one can advise i recently sold quite an old sports car, put petol in it for the new owner, and marked his reciept for payment as-Sold as seen, tested inspected accepted etc, which he signed, as it is an old car with no guarantee, however after 100 mile drive he tells me something is leaking on to exhaust and smoking! >:( do i have a responsibility to sort this out for him or pay to rectify the problem? or as he accepted it sold as seen etc, is it down to him to pay for any repairs? i don't want to be unfair to the guy and it is just sods law that this has happened, but how do i stand under these circumstances? Any advice please? Thanks |

Title: Re: Advice on car sellers responsibility Post by pinto on Sep 20th, 2010, 8:44pm Caveat Emptor - Let the buyer beware ! Phrase my little brother discovered the true meaning of after buying a Subaru Impreza that grenaded 40 miles after purchase - costing a further £ 4,000 to sort and rebuild. I worry about your problem too when i sell cars, and im careful not to mis-describe then during the sale. They all go with a signed receipt stating that the vehicle is supplied in as seen condition tho that might be roadworth with tax and ticket dependant. LIkewise, i dont want any dealings with it once they've left, although if something serious went (and it was obviously not down to them) i'd offer a return/refund. IN this case, sounds like a leaking rocker gasket or similar- so tough ! |
