Title: Rust on wheel arch question Post by Pianoman on Oct 16th, 2010, 11:54am Been looking at a few scorpios for sale that have slight bubbling on the rear arch, can this rust be stopped without replacing the whole panel or will it just keep coming back if I try to treat it? many thanks Tony |

Title: Re: Rust on wheel arch question Post by Simmo on Oct 16th, 2010, 12:28pm Tony it is a well known weakness with these cars and the remedy is to cut out the damage and weld in a new arch section. They are available from pattern parts makers and several members, including me, have had theirs done. I guess it depends on what you want/can spend, the overall state of the car, and your ability or otherwise to do the job yourself. I had mine done by a bodyshop together with the sills and the result was first class. ;) |

Title: Re: Rust on wheel arch question Post by Pegasus on Oct 17th, 2010, 10:23pm Depends how extensive it is. Just done 4-5" surface rust that had caused bubbling on 1 rear arch. Stripped it back to clean (no rust) metal, treated it (Jenolite or Kurust) then primed it several times (it's like filler), rubbing down with wet/dry 800 then 1200 grade to get a smooth finish, a few sprays with the colour then some more with top coat. Good as new :) Paul |
