Title: 12 valve petrol tank leaking.(SORTED) Post by gemeg22171 on Oct 18th, 2010, 10:41pm My first 'nasty' in nearly 4 years of ownership, looks like it is leaking from the rear of the tank. £454 from FPUK. Anyone ever fitted a second hand one? Certainly cannot justify what would probably be £600 fitted. Brian. :'( |

Title: Re: 12 valve petrol tank leaking. Post by gozz on Oct 18th, 2010, 11:30pm Brian. They rot out after all these years, have a look on eBay they are usually about £100,beware of being sold an early Mk3 Granada one though because they had an external pump and the hole in the top is too small for a Scorpio pump/gauge unit. The most common rot point is around the filler tube, but they can spring a leak anywhere.Best not fit a used one, because as you derust it,little holes may appear. Title: Re: 12 valve petrol tank leaking. Post by tlundkvi on Oct 19th, 2010, 6:50am All petrol ones are the same. Beware though that even if done right, the sender may (depends on the manufacturer, the Klokkerholm did this, probably because they also fit the latest Granadas) display 10 liters too little. But that OTOH is easier to live with than a leak, and this can be fixed by bending the arm slightly. The low position of the sender arm should almost touch the bottom of the fuel tank, but the annoying thing is this involves doing the fitting at least twice :) |

Title: Re: 12 valve petrol tank leaking. Post by gemeg22171 on Nov 23rd, 2010, 3:00pm New tank now fitted. Supplied by RS Turbos Bournemouth, £80 inc VAT and delivery, excellent service. Garage said one tank strap snapped and supporting nothing and the other held together by cobwebs and cow cr-p. He made me two new ones, undersealed body above tank and tank itself, and towbar which he had to take off. Sorted. |
