Title: Car re-wiring
Post by ALAN on Nov 19th, 2010, 8:07pm
Hi, had a problem which i posted on forum, basically car kept stopping when it got warm, had a diagnostic out and someone checked out the cars fuses etc with nothing showing up. Anyway ive had the car in the garage for 4wks and they say that the problem is the wiring, they have done what bit they could but the problem is still there so it needs the whole wiring doing. Its a 2.9 24v cosworth does anyone know where this can be done or how much im lookin at paying, thanks

I dont think I can remember anyone getting it done professionally Alan, I suspect the cost will be very prohibitive.

Your garage should be able to tell you what is causing the switch off, there must be a signal dropping or changing to cut the engine out?

I would suspect the EDIS loom initially if its cutting out completely

Thanks i.ll get all the details tomorrow when i pick the car up, i think he said it was something to do with the wiring to the crankshaftand the wiring itself seems to be pretty bad. Will definately get back to you as its either do it or it dies, thanks again

Hi matt, i phoned the garage today as they haven,t bought the car back, they said that they were trying to get it started, (since they tried do some of the wiring it hasn,t started at all), i did ask what loom was the problem and they said its the main loom to the engine.

is it turning over or nothing at all now?

I dont think its turning at all now (since they messed with the wires) last time i rang they said they,re re-conditioning the battery, what that means i dont know because there,s been nothing wrong with the battery apart from needing charging when i,ve ran it down. Getting from bad to worse  :-[

it may have taken the control fuse out, happens from time to time when the battery is reconnected,

try fuses

13, 16, 17, 32, 34, 36, 37

they are all the electronics fuses

The cars still at the garage so i,ll take this to them and have a word with them tomorrow to see whats going on, if they are as good as they say they should know about the fuses. If it is the main loom to the engine do you know if it can be done.

if the loom has cracked it will be more then likely where it bends and goes accross the front memeber, its a fair old job be not impossible, its a dash out job and may even need the engine dropping out for better access
