Post by Nunnspoet on Dec 10th, 2010, 10:32am

The name rings a bell but I've never heard of anyone using it ???

I tried most of the 'miracle' stuff on the market but still go back to using all Autoglym stuff including their 'High Definition' wax, nothing comes close to the finish you get from a good solid carnauba wax in my humble opinion.

Once waxed, if the paint just gets dusty, a buff with a microfibre wand and a polish with a microfibre and some rapid detailer spray keeps it looking fresh. If it gets dirty with grime, a rinse off with a hose and most of the grime falls straight off of the waxed paint, then a wash with a good chamois and bucket of shampoo, then dried with a second chamois in clean water leaves the paint virtually bone dry, then if I've got time a quick buff with the detailer and it looks like it's been freshly waxed again.

You also get a depth of shine that you just can't get with the cheap stuff :)

That high definition wax is the only stuff I've ever used that honestly does last as long as it says on the tin, that car was waxed last in late September, gets washed or detailed virtually every time it goes out, also it's kept under a heavy outdoor cover which rubs the exposed edges of the body - usually that kind of treatment would be through a coat of wax or polish within a week, the wax coating is still definitely there ;)

Thanks Bruce.  I was curious as the thought of just being able to clean the car to a high polish finish with very little effort gets more apealing to me as I get older and more decrepit  ::)

Methinks I'll abandon that one  :)

Mike, that's just what I've found from the different stuff I've used, others might've been more lucky. I'd be curious too to hear from anyone who'd used any of those coatings :)

Problem is, any kind of polish will wear off in no time, most bottled waxes have the same problem. We had a discussion going on this about 3 years ago, a few of the guys mentioned Jofs, I used it for a while and quite liked it. BUT, it still doesn't last more than a couple of washes, after a few days you could see where it had rubbed off from the flanks of the wings etc where they got rubbed under the car cover. I also found that after a few uses it matted the paint and that was hard to remove. Also you still don't get anywhere near the depth of shine that you do from a good wax.

So, it was back to Autoglym, not cheap stuff but that car did look truly stunning in the sunlight the morning after, it definitely does stay cleaner with regards to dust and light dirt although I think that road grime is still gonna stick, no matter what you coat the paint with. The wax also hides the inevitable polishing swirls, which is a nice bonus :)

I agree about the Jofs.. I have gone back to my trusty Auto Glym and also use the Hard wax as a final finisher. Expensive to start with but everything is relative.
I also wash the car with a wax soap which I have done for years now and I find that helps keep the shine and the wax.
