Title: An Obvious Tip? (computer reset and needle flicker
Post by freddieboy on Dec 24th, 2010, 7:10am
Recently I had the old problems regarding being unable to reset the computer, and speedo and rev counter needles flickering at start up.
I read through the many tips in the forum pages, and would like to add my own take which worked well for me.
It would seem that the problem is battery orientated, because even though I have a reasonably new battery of the correct type, which always starts the engine first time I was getting the above problems.
My remedy was to charge the battery at a fast charge rate for two hours, and the problems completely disappeared.
I make lots of short trips using lights, heaters, etc and so the battery doesn`t get the chance to refresh itself adequately.
Elementary but it works.
A very Happy Christmas and New Year to All, and a trouble free motoring year in 2011.  regards Fred Wren.

Hoocha!!!!!!,  my old 'Journeyman' when I was but a lad 35 years ago, used to have an expression for that.   "Giving the battery a wee 'Boily-up'...."   It was one of his 'pet-hates'.    Unfortunately he died very early-on in my apprenticeship, so I finished off on heavy locomotive diesels and hydraulic transmissions!
