Title: ABS Controller removal 24v
Post by Tenfut on Jan 8th, 2011, 1:10pm
Following the site instructions to remove the mounting bracket and looking at the pictures, the vacuum tank on mine is far bigger (24v engine) and mounted the other way round so what is the best way or "knack" to get at the bottom screw to remove the vacuum tank to enable access to the front 2 mounting nuts as it looks impossible without removing this tank or am I missing something.

Many thanks

Tony

The bracket on which the ABS unit is mounted has slots rather than holes for the insulators,so if you can just loosen the nuts it will pull upwards. To remove the electronic module, undo the header tank and swing it out of the way, then you can gently bend the pipes, possibly loosening a clamp or two, just enough to remove the little screws holding it in place,I use a 1/4" ratchet with short socket.

Thanks Gozz

But-----  are you talking 24v here? The vacuum tank (if that is what it is) on mine is definitely the opposite way round and is 2 or maybe 3 times bigger to the one pictured on the site so it looks like without removing this tank(?) it is impossible to get a socket or spanner latched on to the 2 front nuts. From looking closely it would appear to be easy to get at these if the tank were removed, it just that bottom screw that baffles me.

Cheers

Tony

Yes 24v,the little tank on those that I have had is bolted to the front of the ABS bracket with two small bolts, one top and one underneath,a bit tricky but not impossible.

Hi Gozz and thanks again,

So are we saying this tank has to come off before those 2 front nuts can be accessed? Also does undoing the three under wing nuts and raising the mounting bracket make access to this bottom screw easier?

I havent actually started the job yet, just getting the step by step in my head.

Cheers

Tony

Tony.
There is little point in lifting the bracket up because you need to get between it and the module to remove the little screws. The lower 10mm bolt on the tank can be accessed with a 1/4" socket and medium extension, just loosen it a turn or two then remove the top one and shift the tank from side to side to access the insulator nuts,it's not easy but simple enough.

Hi Gozz

Just been out to have a look at a spare ABS lump off a scrappie and it does indeed have 2 10mm bolts to fasten on the tank but mine is definitely held on by 2 large headed philips screws, the bottom one being difficult to get a screwdriver on, probably a bit easier to get a socket on if it was a bolt. Anyway when the time comes I shall persevere and somehow undo this d**n screw.

Thanks for your comments

Tony
