Hi

I need HELP. As you may have read in OBD Advice I am having problems with my Scorpio. To try and find the reason for my misfire I was going to take the Engine Loom out and check if there is a fault in it.

Today I went to the car and the radiator fan on the OS was running - I don't know why as there was nothing left on in the car. I had the battery on charge as it was flat yesterday. To stop the fan running I decided to remove the connector until I find out what was happening. I disconnected the MAF connection and the cable under the air tube. I then unclipped the MAF and unscrewed the two jubilee clips at the inlet manifold. When I went to pull off the air tubes I got a surprise - they were full of petrol. When I got the complete fitting off and poured the petrol into a can I got about half a gallon.

Can anyone explain how this is happening; Is this the cause of my misfire; Is this why it goes through petrol as though there is no tomorrow???

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

PS That is besides finding out why the fan was running!

Theoretically one fan cannot run without the other,since they are wired in series for slow speed and parallel for fast,maybe the N/S fan is faulty ? if the relay is jammed shut maybe the fans would receive continuous power,big green relay down low behind O/S headlamp.
Regarding the petrol problem,this is something I haven't come across on 'modern' engines,logically if fuel is in the inlet system it COULD come from either direction,ie if the crankcase was full of fuel due for instance to a busted injector,which is hardly feasible,the breather system could suck it into the intake.The other possibility is that the inlet manifold is being flooded via a jammed injector.Is there any chance that your fuel pump is running when the key is switched off due to a faulty pump relay or wiring fault ?

Hi Gozz

Thank you for your input.

The fan problem does not worry me as much as the petrol problem. I will check the relay; it could be jammed as you say.

With the petrol problem; if it is a faulty injector then, as you point out, the crankcase would be full. The only way I can check this is by removing the spark plugs and dipping to see if there is any fuel there.

I am puzzled now; if there is a faulty injector, would this cause the misfire and would this also account for the DTC P1351. It would be great if this was the solution to all my problems.

I will also check the fuel pump (when I find it), the cables and the relays.

I did find this page and I now know where the pump is. I think that even though it is a bit of a chore to do, I will check the pump (and the filter while I'm down there).

You should hear the pump start up soon as you turn it on. Maybe even while it stays on.

Injector stuck open sounds most plausible I suppose, could you take the intake hoses off, turn it on and see what happens? Like petrol starts appearing!

Hi Mike

Thank you for your posting.

Your idea of turning the ignition on and waiting to see what happens sounds feasible. The day that I connected up the OBD I had the ignition on for a good while during the setting up of the device and then taking the readings.

I will try to repeat this tomorrow and I will report back my findings.
