Title: Re: Welding fuel tank? Post by ernie on Mar 4th, 2011, 7:38pm If the tube was brazed and caused no problems I would try and get the split brazed. I have heard of people filling the tank with an inert gas such as nitrogen but rather you than me. I have seen a tank that was safely electric welded but it had been empty for years. |

Title: Re: Welding fuel tank? Post by Scorpabilly on Mar 5th, 2011, 8:14am When I worked in Portsmouth dockyard they used to weld petrol tanks by filling the tank with solid carbon dioxide. If you can get the parts really clean you may be able to bond the bits together wth a high quality epoxy adhesive (eg 3Ms 2216). Make sure that adhesive joints are in compression. I've seen diesel tanks repaired with epoxy. hth |

Title: Re: Welding fuel tank? Post by gozz on Mar 5th, 2011, 8:55am We used a can of Pyrene fire extinguisher fluid which is carbon tetrachloride,no doubt it is illegal under Euroregs these days like most of our old fixes. I have to smile wryly when observing the ridiculous Brussels controlled nanny state, why weren't we all snuffed out years ago doing all these 'dangerous' things ::) GOZZ. |

Title: Re: Welding fuel tank? Post by ernie on Mar 15th, 2011, 8:26pm Sorry been off line due to a new arrival (of the crying and nappies variety not 4 wheeled) One other option depending on how original you want to keep the car, weld in the whole boot floor section from either Granada or Scorpio and use a standard tank. As for Gozz and the eurocrats keep an eye on the express, there may be some hope yet (not the right place for getting political I know apologies ). |

If you change the link to: http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l541/Scorpabilly/mk1.jpg & add the bracketed img bits shown in the instructions of the previously posted links you'll get the picture in your post. "img" needs to be lower case with photobucket http://i1123.photobucket.com/albums/l541/Scorpabilly/mk1.jpg |
