Title: Poor idle/performance ...but no codes
Post by paultheton57 on Mar 9th, 2011, 5:24pm
Hi, 2.0 16v shows no codes but is idling badly & when driving feels like its missing. Could being overfilled with oil cause problems?

Try cleaning the MAF.  Lee

By the sound of it I would be looking at coil packs and the coil pack wiring loom

Is it running on 3 cylinders?

is it a constant problem?

have a read at this page

Fault code said it was the first lambda sensor, changed it. Then codes said it was the rear lambda, changed it. Then codes said MAF bad (1 wire was broken) changed it (2nd hand but off of a runner).
Then I saw the page about the loom, it was shot! New on Ebay £179? So I removed it and rewired it 1 by 1 in my kitchen. Now there are no codes showing!!
My Sister overfilled the oil, but the car drove fine for 60/70 miles over about 4 days? But now there is no oil showing on the stick (back end crank seal I think).
It noticably stutters on idle, no power when driving, missing badly. Would it run on 3 cylinders?

i've had a 2.0 16v started and running on 1 cylinder (with a little throttle persuasion) ;)

I'd be looking at coil packs or plugs now, (hopefully not a headgasket but the oil leak is worrying)

I usually pull the plug leads off one at a time to see if there is any difference in the running (dont do it while the engine is running) ;D

If you pull one off and there is no change in the engine running try swapping the plug, if its still the same you have a dud coilpack.

Well ... looks like Highlander was right, no spark on 3 plug. Guess I need a coil pack!

Wish I had looked at cars for sale after Xmas, 24v give away time!!!  Had the previous shape cosworth once and always wanted the new one ....... i'll buy a scratchcard - fingers crossed!

Thanks for all the help guys, now about that oil leak .........................

Yes I would also look at plugs.

Edit further to the above most recent ~ have you had them out?

Electrodes have been known to wear away to nothing leaving rediculously large spark gaps.

Hope the overfilling hasn't blown a crankcase seal.  ???

New coil pack (24 hour delivery from Highlander's shortcut) like a new car!

Yes, I've changed the plugs now, thanks.

Have you read the Haynes instructions for replacing the rear crankcase seal?

OMG!!! & I have to work in the street!

Thankyou all for your input, now who knows about Ford Probes ...........................
