Just had a Vauxhall Zafira introduce it's front end to my rear :( No-one hurt thanks goodness.

Bumper wrecked along number plate bulb holders.

Luckily I have a bumper spare that I had fitted 2 years ago on my old Estate.

Is it a fairly straight forward process to remove/refit the bumpers? More importantly, my old car has a factory fitted towbar - would it be simple enough to fit this to my new one or will there be lots of electrical connections to make?

Hi Steve,

If its a factory fitted towbar they came with a seperate loom that the original loom plugged into, so no rewiring needed.

Bumper is easy enough if you can get the bolts off!

there are 2 torx screws, (sometimes bolts) that attach the bumper legs to the body, if you look up under the corners of the bumper you should see them.

be warned, more often than not i've had to grind these off.. but you may be lucky.

There is a large plastic tab that secures either side of the bumper, a half turn will release them.

after that unlpug the wires, reversing sensors? and thats it

Cheers Highlander, the old one should come off without too much bother as it's only been on 2 years and the bolts were copperslipped back in.

Right, got the bumper off - 3 of the 4 bolts sheared..... >:( but a bit of persuasion and I managed to push them up far enough to pull the bumper back and off the mounts.
Now for the towbar. I can't move the car as the engine is out of commission and I'm parked on a slight slope. I can see the rear bolts but can't figure out how the front is attached. Is there a diagram somewhere?

I think he means the towbar Mike,the bar that goes under the fuel tank has a plate welded on it's end at 90 degrees,this has two bolts attaching it to a bracket which bolts up to the body.

Im having some problems removing my bumper. On my ford it seems that the towbar is mounted by M10 bolts (one bold and one nut/side). These bolts are in the same place as the hex-bolts are described in the bumper-removal-manual.

Do i realy have to remove the towbar to remove the bumper? And when i loosen the bolts it feels like its attached to somthing thats loose inside the frame (nut?) The same with the nut, i think its a bolthead inside the frame so the whole thing rotates when i turn it. Any tips?

Was thinking of removing the bolts that attatches the plastic parts of the bumper to the metal parts that "slides" inside the frame and in that way not having to remove these bolts..

Possibly but I've always found the bumper mount bolts difficult to remove without breaking the bumper and access is pretty bad.

Sounds like torx bolts have been removed when the towbar has been fitted and they've used some spare bolts to refit the bumper :)

if they've used a bolt from inside the chassis for the bumper brackets you may have to resort to cutting it, the original setup was a plate with captive nuts which wouldnt turn, allowing the torx bolts to be removed.
