Title: Manual Gearbox Photo Wanted Please
Post by Dave2302 on Apr 3rd, 2011, 4:24pm
Can anyone please post up a clear pic of the inside of a Scorpio Manual bellhousing with the hydraulic release bearing removed please.

I have a Scorpio hydraulic release bearing and a few ideas but I would like to see how it is bolted in on a Scorpio gearbox as I am about to convert my 4X4 boxes to take a hydraulic release bearing

Cheers Dave

hi dave

the manual boxes on the scorpio have extra aluminium around the centre bearing cover and it is drilled and tapped to accept the bearing flange (centred with the cover its self( different to the sierra cover))

the sierra boxes and modded by having 3 blobs of ally weld made up to the surface of the nut and machined flat and tapped

Hi Matt,

Thanks,

That's what I thought, but i really need a pictue to have a look see.

Do the bearing bollts actually go into the big nosecone sleeve / nut affair, or are the weld blobs put on the inside of the bellhousing casting ??

In other words could I just fit a nose cone from a hydraulic type gearbox ??

I'm using the lighter 2.8 flywheel, the clutch sits 10mm further forward, so rather than b****ring around ally welding and machining, I was thinking of mounting the bearing I have on a circular steel plate which would have tabs to fit over the ribs inside the bellhousing to stop it turning ;)

Cheers

Dave

Having just looked at the workshop manual on here I think the release bearing bolts to another wee casting which then bolts to the Scorpio Bellhousing ??

I don't appear to have this bit, just a concentric bearing assembly with 3 holes in it, PCD of these holes appears to be just smaller than the thread for the nosecone hence my Questions.............

So I either need to adapt it with a bit of 3mm steel plate, or get the extra bit I appear to be missing, and load the welder up with aly wire and pure argon, which I have !!

Thats why I want a pic lol, cos a pic would be worth a thousand words ;)

Cheers Dave

sorry ive had to do it like this but just found my image host has gone!!

done have a manual box from a scorpio but have my spare sierra one

you need the centre bearing nut like this one, it centres the bearing on the shaft

then where ive put the red blobs is where it needs building up in order to secure the bearing, needs to be level with the flange (dots not exactly in the right place, bearing will tell you)

Right, cheers Matt,

I've seen Dave Howie do that, but like I said I must have a bit missing, cos if I put the welds there they will be too far out for the bolt holes, think I'll wait until the engines on the floor, and fit the flywheel / clutch, then b****r about with it all on a bare bellhousing ;)

Unless anyone else has pics ????

Cheers Dave

Yeah............

I see now, just looked at one on EBay, mines got the back casting bit missing, that's what was confusing me.....

Looks like I'll do it differently then, unless anyones got a whole one !!

Cheers

Dave

Hi Matt,

No it's still at Stewarts at the moment LOLOL

The bearing I have is definitely a Scorpio MT75 one, but it's been unbolted from the casting which fits between it and the MT75 Bellhousing.

I dont have any T9 bits now LOL,

Cheers Dave

maybe a false positive Mike.
Nothing picked up with my AV.

I got this when I googled eus2.admxs.com
