The 12v received hydraulic tappets on the Granada at the same time as the cat was fitted,K reg onwards,so as Matt says your Scorpio should have them.I have bought one or two limos in the past where someone has 'set' the tappets because the adjusters are still there, they made a terrible row !
A fellow operator sent his to the main dealer,Groses,to have a head gasket done, they 'set' the tappets resulting in a noise like a diesel. If you check yours and find gaps, just nip em to eradicate the gap. They do of course, eventually wear, and unlike the OHC engines, the heads must come off to replace them.

Thanks guys, i have an idea what to expect now, after 75k the rocker box gaskets are starting to leak, so i'll have them off soon to seal them.
Thanks

What ever you do don't adjust them, hydraulic lifters should never need adjusting as they adjust themselves.

If you think someone has messed with them there is a procedure you can follow to put them back to factory.

What was the reason for the original question?

The reason i asked the question, is having had many granadas and older scorpio's i have only known adjustable tappets. (which i had off to a fine art.) but i thought i read on here that they may be hydraulic. both my rocker gaskets need replacing, i thought while i am doing the gaskets, just in case, i may need my feeler gauges, (nightmare to find!) i would ask which it was believed to be by fellow club members, as i did not know what year the tappets were superceeded with hydraulic. Thanks

OK he was just asking if they're adjustable type, not meaning there's a problem specifically ;D

Bob.
All 12v Cologne engines have tappet rocker adjusters, but just before the Scorpio came out an hydraulic tappet was placed between the cam and the pushrod in addition to the adjusters which were then redundant, you can't see em,if you look down the pushrod hole the top of the tappet appears the same as the original solid tappet fitted prior to the later Granada and Scorpio.

Great, many thanks for all the info guys, i understand things better now, the confusion was because i just fitted a 16v 2-3 head, but i am now working on the wifes 2-9, and couldn't work out how the tappets would be adjustable on that with hydraulic, wrongly thinking about the 2-3! design. which of course is different, and with the lifters down the bottom on the canshafts. on my 12 valve, obvious now as it's not overhead cam! :-[ anyway the car has done about 75k and the oil looks a bit on the thick side, tappety when cold, not horrendous! so i think the oil change should do the  trick, i hesitate about using an additive to clear the oil ways though,
Thanks again bob

Just to sum up with regard to the oil. the grade required is 10/40 (as opposed to 5/40) semi synthetic, either Comma. or Magnatec,
and run an oil flush for 30 minutes first?

In the latest oil lists 5w30 supersedes the original 10w30,yes a flushing oil as per instructions on the container removes an incredible amount of crud,it comes out black. There is no need to waste money on fancy oil,it won't make a blind bit of difference other than to your wallet !!

Many thanks for replies guys, i ended up having to get Halfords 5w/30, part synthetic, Seems very thin to what came out, also used the flush, and as GOZZ said it came out black, anyway the engine does seem as quiet as it could be i reckon, something definite i noticed was the coolant temp is more stable! the car has always has a fluctuating needle, dont know why this would have changed, but it has, also tickover sounds faster!  i say sounds as the rev counter has not worked since i bought the car. have to trace a white wire from alternator, cheers
