At 79 serious work on my 24v Ultima is being entrusted to others. In front of the recently replaced water pump and held by a clip is a wiring loom formerly enclosed within a flexible rubber hose. The rubber hose has perished and the enclosed wires are now visible and unfortunately the plastic insulation on the wires has hardened and cracked and a tiny area of copper is just visible on one wire.

The car was first registered in April 1997 and I have owned it from February 1998 and to date it has been maintained to a high standard, always garaged, and has covered 91,000 careful and virtually trouble free miles.

I am located about 6 miles From Stourbridge in the West Midlands. Any suggestions as to how to fix the problem? Do members of the forum know anyone who can carry out the work to a high professional standard?

Hiya Malcom

Im assuming this is the cable to the crank position sensor (1 wire?) how badly cracked is the cable, if its only a minor section missing and your not having any ill effects (dancing rev needle) then it may well be best to leave it well alone as any extra movement could make things worse

i have had same problems,but on 12v...transm instalation was in mess i re-isolated all instalatin on gearbox,one by one ...

Can do the job as long as its the right tape and doesnt melt ;D

Well as a 'quick fix' measure really needs summat more like the old cloth based insulation tape, modern equiv. is probably polyimide or glass cloth ~ tho it all really wants cutting out and resplicing by the sound of it but as per original question who's going to do that ;D
