Title: lost keys
Post by amigafan2003 on May 9th, 2011, 4:49pm
Hi All

About a week ago I lost one of my keys with a remote fob attached.  I was hoping it was going to turn up sooner or later but with each passing day it seems unlikely - I'm beginning to think they may have slipped out of my pockect when washing it.

I have two other keys - one with a small red sqaure on it that starts the car and unlocks the car and one uncoded key that just operates the locks but wont start the car (obviously).  I have no entirely red key.

In case someone has picked the keys up off the street I've been pulling the coil connector off each night.  The car hasn't been opened though and nothing is missing from inside though - so maybe someone doesn't know what car they are for (unlikely as it has a Cosworth keyring) and I haven't heard anyone trying to start it in the night.

So - what are my options?  Ideally I'd like the system reprogramming with new keys so the old ones wont work anymore.  Is this a Ford only job or does anyone know any locksmiths that could do it?  I'm located on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire btw.

Car is a Y reg (built 1998) Facelift Ultima 24v.

So I'm guessing you were washing the car out in the street, and that's where you think the key was dropped?

I suppose it's not in the car somewhere? I've done that, locked meself out of my 316 once, and natch only had the one; I never leave the key in the car again ;D

Actually my car was on the drive way and the wifes car was parked on the road.  Gave my car a quick wash but didn't unlock it, washed my wifes a bit more throughly, including bending down to give the wheel s a good scrub - this is when I think I've lost them.

So far, the car hasn't been unlocked, everything is still in the glove box (couple of torches, solar charger etc) and I've not heard anyone try to start it.

I've found out from my friend who works at the local Colleges Ford training center that they have a WDS machine and he reckons he'll be able to create a new master key for me and program a spare, so that will effectively disable the "lost" key - we'll find out next week if it's possible.

You watch, I'll get this none and the lost key will show up the next day!

I assume you'll be changing the locks, otherwise they'll still be able to get in.

Programming another fob will drop the old one out of memory.

Ahh crap!  Didn't even think about that!  Having said that, I don't really leave anything in the car - I'm more concerned about it being driven off.

Still had nothing dissapear from the inside (I've purposely left  a good torch and solar charger in the glove box to see if they go walkies) so it's looking increasingly unlikely I've lost them in the street and someones picked them up.  I can feel a "turn house upside down" search coming.

I usually find a good search of the washing machine, fridge, or down the back of the sofa turns up most lost items ;D

I find my keys, mobile phone, electric razor in the fridge a lot, usually before I've realised they're lost!

Thus implying you're in the fridge, er, a lot http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/images/misc/unsure.gif
