Title: Estate front and rear screen removal
Post by SteveO on Jul 21st, 2011, 1:01pm
I'm on the last stage of stripping my old estate and would like to get the heated front and rear screens out. Is there any way of doing this without the Fein cutters shown in the guide to screen replacement link on here?

Thanks,

Steve

Could use piano wire, or just cut out the frame

Hi Steve,

I have thought about this many times and done it once or twice

BUT

I came to the conclusion and was advised by professionals that if I needed a replacement screen then a new one was best route.

They weaken if removed and many fitters will refuse to fit an old screen as they regularly break.

if they have heating elements fitted they often don't survive the move.

plus most old screens have pitting and marks which you don't really notice until a new one is fitted.

Different story once new windscreens start to get scarce but for now there are plenty ;)

Thanks Highlander, I'll leave them. Just the window motors and glass to save then the scrap man can collect.
