Title: Tensioner removal
Post by Roundozo on Aug 9th, 2011, 11:45am
Hi All,

Right I've managed to find me a water pump! yay! Its taken a few weeks but I got there in the end.

My question to you helpful people is how do I remove the belt. I don’t have A/C so I’ve just one belt driving the water pump, alternator and power steering. I’ve had a quick look at the tensioner pulley but cant see how to loosen it. It looks to have a star pattern on the bolt inside the tensioner. I don’t know if this is what I need to loosen or not. If you kind chaps could give me any advice on this I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers!

Hi again, well thanks for the information to move the tensioner down. Unfortunately the last bolt to remove the water pump on the 24v is behind the spring part and I cant get access even when the tensioner is pushed down. Basically I think I’m going to need to remove the whole tensioner body etc. Does anyone know how to go about this? Can the whole unit that the tensioner, alternator and power steering pump are attached too be removed as one etc?  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

LOL, George,

Don't take all that lot off, just undo the bolt in the middle of the tensioner (Torx) and pull it off, don't worry the spring tension won't let go, once you get it off you'll see what a nice easy design it is ;)

HTH Dave

Few!! :D Was hopping there was a better way. I don’t have a massive selection of tools at the moment so looks like another trip to Halfords. I did try putting a nut on a 10mm bolt as that fits in nicely but it just kept coming undone. I was also worried that once its off it’ll just spring apart and I’d never be able to get it back together again. Thanks so much for the help Dave. Off to Halfords it is!!

On the plus side I’ve managed to get both inlet manifolds off and am slowly getting to the bypass hose. I think I should have taken some pics though as it looks a right mess now and putting it all back together will be fun!  :-/
