blocked filter on the pump/gunge in the bottle, kinky hoses :)

Probably what has happened is when you put water in it stirred up the muck in the bottom of the tank which has now blocked the filter.
Remove the pump, pull out the runbber bung which incorporates the filter and either clean & refit or fit a new one - under £1 from Ford.
The filter can also break up - probably reaction of the rubber & washer fluid.
Careful you have not blocked up the washer jets...

Do I access this via ...Front wheel off, then wheel arch cover off...as it looks a bit crowded from the bonnet side?
Many Thanks

just from under the front bumper, all the pumps/pipes are at the front of the bottle for easy access... not like Mr Ford at all ;)

Now, I was prepared for the wet sleeve...what I wasn't prepared for was......nothing...
I jacked the car up, pulled off the two narrow hose, no water came out, then it was a case of lever the pump out of the reservoir time...I was poised like a coiled spring for the fountain of water to cascade onto my sleeve...out popped the pump...nothing...not a drip.
I inserted a screwdriver and with the touch of a trainee gynocologist, i twiddled and could clearly feel some sort of blockage, I think it was the other end of the rubber gasket that had malformed, with a twist and a push and little faffing about, yes...YES! ...I then got the wet sleeve..ho hum..
All is well now, I have a fully functioning screen wash.
Many thanks to all

It sounds as though the pump came out leaving the grommet/filter in place. The screwdriver has pierced the mesh part of the grommet which covers the inlet to the pump. It will work but effectively there is now no filter. The idea is to remove that grommet and simply wash the sludge off the 'screen'. ;)

New grommet then eh?
It'll pass its MOT tomorrow though...well the winscreen washers will!

Agree with Simmo - new grommet needed to keep muck out of the pump and stop the washer jets from getting blocked.
Under a quid from your friendly FMD.
Washer jets and pumps considerably more  ;D
