Hi
replacing the matrix on my cossie. Only 1 (well I think it's the last 1) thing stopping me. I need to take the heater assembly out in order to change the matrix.

Trouble is the demister ducts will not budge from the assembly (I've removed nuts, screws, separated looms, etc).

Can't see what's holding them on apart from sheer stubborness. They wiggle and move but will not separate. Anyone done this?

Hi Paul,
A pint of Harvey’s & a lot of swearing should separate them :)

Whilst you have the dash out it’s a good idea to prop open the recirculation flap just above the heater box & clean the evaporator. I took out the pollen filters & flushed it through in both directions with a soapy water spray followed by clean water then compressed air. I put some old towels inside to soak up the water, & closed the flap when spraying from outside although most of the water did go out the drains. You can’t get a clear look at it but there appears to be a very shallow drainage channel/indentation under the condenser so try and clear that.

Here’s a picture with the flap propped open.
If you look on the picture at the stubs that the ducting go onto you can see large bulges along the edges, that’s all that’s stopping the ducts separating, it has to stretch over them.
You can also see in the ducts the flaps I mentioned that can have the foam collapse on them allowing heat/cold to leak through the holes that the foam covers:

I've just changed the matrix ;D ;D ;D
The answer to the problem above was using the hair dryer to warm up the ends (thanks for that Dave) then used a flat head screwdriver inbetween and gently levering - came away easy when combined with a bit more wiggling.
I'm gonna have a cuppa (the Harvey's comes later but the swear box is already full) then I'll look at the evaporator then put the car back together.
Might write this all up when I've calmed down.
