Title: Burglar Alarm wired to Stereo
Post by Dave2302 on Sep 23rd, 2011, 12:45pm
Hi guys.................

On the Scorpio and on the Puma there is a black / red thin wire connected to the stereo which triggers the alarm when the stereo is unplugged with the alarm set.

What I need to know, (as I am not having a stereo), is to keep the alarm functioning 100% what do I do with this lead ??

The door switches are permanently earthed when alarm is set and doors shut, and earth breaks to set off alarm, when a door is opened, or a wire cut.

Should I connect the stereo one to earth, so the alarm thinks its still fitted ?

Any knowledge on this ?

Has anyone had alarm problems when fitting an aftermarket stereo, such as LED not flashing correctly, alarm not setting etc ??

Cheers Dave

Have to agree with you either it connects the earth through the unit, or is possibly connected to +12V.

What I've done for now is left 12" of the wire at the Pumas GEM Unit (like Scorpio CCM) and when it's all up and running I'll Scan the alarm for faults, if it shows a fault related to Audio unit I'll try earthing it !!

If no faults and alarm works ok I'll snip it at the GEM Plug  ;)

Don't want to blow up the GEM though, so I was hoping someone on here might know for sure  ;)

I suppose I could take an old stereo apart and see where the relevant pin goes  ;)

Anyone else have a clue ??

If you look at This page (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/radioto995.htm) or the alternative one,via button on the left, for later radios perhaps that will help?. ;)

Looked at wiring diagram RADIO from:

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=eb36f845ea9b8fb6&id=EB36F845EA9B8FB6%21146#

only black/reds I found (5 of them!) are for the steering column stalk (?)

Couldn't find anything on diagram ANTI THEFT ALARM

On the TIS CD it just shows the wire going from alarm to the Stereo, but it doesn't show what happens to it inside the stereo ;)

Looking at the links, the Stereo one shows nothing, but Mike H's link, shows the connection on the Alarm diagram, (it is Bk / Og tho), and on the Scorpio diagram this goes to the Stereo and is earthed through it ;)

The Puma diagram doesn't show the earthing only the wire................

I'd imagine it is still an Earth, so will try that first  ;)

Cheers

Could be it was black/orange, but the orange has gone dark so looks like red now(?)

I think it unlikely that some "special signal" goes up it from the stereo so I'm with you, think it's just a separate wire so that there's no ambiguity, i.e. it can't be accidentally connected some other way to make alarm think it's OK.
