I need to put some sort of bulkhead between the driver's seats and the luggage area of my estate (by the latter I'm including the flattened back seat area). The reason is to stop luggage and gear from coming into the driver's area (I arrange my stuff so this shouldn't happen, but I'm worried that it might one day).

The only thing around that seems to do the job is a dog guard, from Halfords for example. Anyone got any advice on this? Particular models? Or another solution?

Are you running it mostly with the rear seats down? Like a van?

Most of the dog guards you mention just seem to have screw out rubber feet, and while they will keep the dogs in, I doubt they would stop heavy stuff coming through in the event of an emergency stop at speed.

In fact I wonder if they would even stop the momentum of a good sized dog..

Possibly have a custom bulkhead or crossbars fabricated which can be bolted in place?

Sometimes I need to use it like a van, but often I need to have the rear seats up to ferry the kids around, so unfortunately a permanent solution is not an option.

Some sort of net arrangement possibly?

Or a large mesh type load liner?

Not something I've really come across for a Scorpio though.

There are bolt on Ford dog guards available but only for the boot section, however they would stop anything at head height coming through

A lot of the high milage reps carrying work samples are now replacing their estate cars with vans for precisely this reason, so they have a solid bulkhead behind them in case of an accident.

How about a thing made from tubing that you could put in against the backs of the front seats? Could have something at the bottom that goes down in front of the folded down rear seat tops and keep it in place, if you see what I mean ~ can still be quickly detachable though, like as a one-piece structure.

Or a big perspex sheet maybe. Whatever it is will still depend on the front seats holding up to it. Never mind emergency stop what about a crash :o

Stuart's right though not a lot is going to stop a German shepherd trying to nut you from behind in a sudden stop

Going off on a slight tangent here but...

I once worked beside a woman who had a large Mastiff that weighed over 12 stone that always sat on the back seat of the car.

She was out driving one day when it spotted another dog outside and dived the length of the back seat.

The sudden weight transfer caused a massive body roll and she lost control, headed up a grass verge and ended up a field..

The dog had a seatbelt harness fitted the next day ;D
