I have spent a few hours on the car today, lovely weather, and got lots done. New rear colour-coded sensors, fixed the near-side dipping mirror. The only thing left was the clock light. What a female dog! I got the dash nearly out, aye by undoing the clips around the perimeter, and forced the 'wooden' bit forward but still could only get the old bulb-unit out, but definitely not the new bulb unit in! I didn't remove the 7000 radio unit first, and this unit did seem to be not helping. So, what is the prescribed method of changing the clock bulb? I can't believe that Ford designers were so poor as to need the whole dash disconnected for one bulb! It's now the ONLY thing left electrically not working on the car, and that only for the last two weeks. I took out the screws above the speedo, and the screws on the drivers glove-box, along with the top of the steering column, and the air-con control panel, all was loose, but not enough room. Any thoughts?

I sorry to tell you that the ONLY way to replace the bulb in the clock IS to take the dash out. We are all still amazed that Ford designers did it this way but they did!

Peter. IIRC one of our members was so frustrated by this 'requirement' that when he did get the clock out he altered the fixing method and secured it from the front by drilling through the facia. I think it may have been Jonnycab, currently Hopalong !! ;D, so he may be able to advise later.

Thanks for the replies gents, what a blasted nuisance! It's the only bit of the car not working, and every time I go out when it's dark my eyes are drawn towards it! Grrrrrrrrrr >:(

Presumably you have released the steering wheel and pulled it out and down ?

That's why you are a respected member and have good knowledge of these vehicles, and I'm a mindless dildo! I was so wrapped up in anger at the stupidity of the Ford designer I never though about the steering wheel adjustment! Oh well, I'll know for next time, and I'll do that conversion to allow me to get at it again. ;)
