I think it is a standard item there are all the same the only difference will be the physical size of the housing, if if fact there is any.

Dave, I've put up a 'search' link on the other thread re 24v gearbox removal and it appears, as you say, that the function and workings may be the same but the 'fitting' ie: the housing is different thus they are not seemingly a straight swap. :)

Lee.
The 24v MAF is different in size, fitment and appearance from the four cylinder engines. The 12v V6 was not of course fitted with a MAF.

But the black plastic "heated wire guts" which is held on with 2 tamper proof torx bolts IS the same on a lot of other Fords of around the same year  ;)
Check the part number on the black bit and if it's the same then swap the module into the 24V housing, carefully clean it first  ;)

Yep, mine is a second-hand item from a same-era Mondeo.   The wee elements on mine was goosed, so I took a chance and swapped one from a workshop car, itīs worked for 3 years no-problems, and Iīve cleaned it a few times.

By the way, itīs 32 degrees over here and itīs only 8am in the morning!    ;D

The plug is different (I have a 24v one & it doesn't fit my 2.3).

i have noticed that all the mafs allegedly to fit scorpios and mondeos have 4 pins but with three spaced next to each other then a n empty space followed by the fourth pin in what is effectively a 5 pin plug case which obviously wont fit the four pins all next to each other plug on my diesel scorp . my maf  bosch 0 281 002 164 appears to be totally unobtainable and all the guts to replace the insert have the wrong plugs -the only ones i have seen with 4 pins like mine are on volkswagen derivatives and listed a Ģ248 not something to chance cannibalising i dont know for sure if mine is working properly  i was getting long delays on upshifts on the autobox and cleaning the maf doesnt seem to have made much difference the gearbox appears spot on in all other respects instant engagement  clear fluid etc being a scorpio it will probably get better when i replace the illumination bulb in the clock because its totally unrelated

still experimenting i tried today seeing what happened with the maf disconnected at the plug and on a 5 mile drive i could detect no change in performance .it started as usual wit at least one or more cylinders  missing then smoothing out as they all fired  just like oily plugs on a petrol i think i might have a glow plug or two not up to scratch or being flooded with too much fuel anyway i have ordered a jeep maf which at least seems to match the 4 pin plug  im hoping the plastic body will not need changing but ill see when i get it  opening those tamperproof screws is a bit of a problem because my star screwdrivers dont have the indentation in the tip to clear the pimple in the middle of the screwheads anyway i am this far forward thanks to adams posted advice panic over i have found torx tamperproof key for a fiver so they are on the way in case i need them :)

Bernard,

If replacement MAF doesn't eradicate fault investigate injectors.
No1 injector has an inbuilt chip which can cause issues.
Glow plugs shouldn't be a problem from reading your post.
Your local motor factors should stock correct tool to remove MAF sensor.

success i got the jeep cherokee map today and found i didn't even need to change the housing as it was a straight swap all dimensions the same (makes me wonder why bosch bothered to allocate two part numbers -i guess the guts may have slight spec differences )but no matter  it works the car now has more get up and go and all for 33 quid a brief return to the suppliers site shows price now revised to Ģ69.99 so ive been extremely lucky there--- the part number is 0281002156 my original was 0281002164 now the unresolved bit see my post on overheat warning light
