Title: aux fusebox relays
Post by bernard_slade on Dec 28th, 2012, 5:38pm
following intervention by the AA (ignition just went dead) anf my local garage installing an unknown(by me) fuse getting the car going again i notice yhe light in the air con switch doesnt illuminate when pushed in but  the air con no longer works which is probably why ,i opened the aux fuse box to check the relay was in place but what i see doesnt match the hand book at all r19& r20 i expected to find 2 brown relays butr 20 is a blue one but more importantly r24 which should be the green air con relay  is brown identical to r19 engine management relay--my query is did they alter the basic fuseboxes in production or have i just got wrong relays and are they interchangeable or does it matter i feel fords must have had a reason for colouring them but i havent seen any listing that identifies relay vaues and functions and i dont dare go the trial and error route with a scorpio whose electrics are very grumpy and easily upset  ??? ???

Relay 19 should be a small brown one as relay 20,however 20 is only used for powering the compressor on the few vehicles with pneumatic self levelling rear shockers, and where this is not fitted there should be no relay used.Relay 24 is the WOT relay and is usually blue.

thanks gozz problem solved they had put back the blue in 19  a brown in20 and brown in 25 -- putting the brown in 20 and the blue in 25  solved the problem and i now have air con back.your clue that air con was now blue was crucial as i would have been trying to get a green as per book thanks again one day when it stops raining i will investigate why my mainbeams and dip beams are ok but sidelights with engine running doesnt give dim dip luckily thats not urgent

Bernard. Fuse 18 and Relay no7 in the main, drivers side, fusebox cover the Dim/dipped circuit. :)

i think the reason my dim dip isnt working is that the R7 relay position has no relay in place so now i have to identify what one looks like -all the adjacent relays are yellow but im sure it must be a special one for that job

Bernard. If you open the Fuse box page and then the Drain Hole link there is a photo of the fuseboxes. Relay 7,if I'm reading it right, is a yellow one?. ;)

yes well spotted eagle eye  now all i need is daylight to see how many blade terminals the socket has to see if the other yellows are the same
