i have noticed the idle speed of my autodiesel is 1000 rpm
the spec is 875 . anyone know if this is adjustable i know the eec1V module probably sets it -i dont think diesels have an air control valve as such and i doubt there is a throttle stop screw--it just seems too fast i havent seen anything on site that indicates a higher tick over for autos

my 95 manual td sits at1000 also

i think my timing on the pump may be slightly out as ive done a full strip and rebuild on it??

What's the tickover when you engage gear? There's an optimum tickover for all engines, and it's based on an average between what that engine will cope with when a gear is engaged and brakes-on. I speak from a 'Heavy-Diesel' point of view, when I used to tune 16 Cylinder pressure-charged engines that had an 'idling' speed, and what was called an 'engaged' speed with brakes ON. (Auto-Boxes, Voith hydraulic transmission) Remember that idle speeds can be affected by viscosity of oil, how cold the weather, how cold the Auto-Box, all-sorts. Mine ticks-over about 900rpm when cold, a little lower when warm, but much lower once I've selected a gear.

My Diesel auto idles @ approx 850. Idle speed does not vary if put into Drive or Park.

Just a thought. Did your idle speed rise with your recent MAF change?
TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) should be checked as well.

Also, because these are EECIV. Codes should be able to be read via KOEO (Key On Engine Off) and KOER (Key On Engine Running).
Never tried this myself so hopefully another member could direct you on this.

hi adam

yea but as the car is a long time project im not that fussed lol. if anything it helps warm it up quicker when i run it up every couple of weeks

hi adam the idle speed was the same before the maf change and i tried disconnecting the maf sensor plug at idle and it remained unchanged at1000 rpm when i engage a gear it drops almpst imperceptibly and i estimate at most 50 rpm drop if that---- turning on air con has no effect asd it is compensated ok , the only other thing is i am not sure if the turbo works --no nasty noises but it becomes very gutless at 50mph and there is a long delay about half a mile before 4th gear engages quickly back to third with the slightest incline as if the box senses lack of power .if the turbo has failed it must be seized up as there is no mechanical noise and i wonder what effect stationary vanes might have on the fuel air flow -of course it may be all normal but being used to a manual diesel this is a learning curve for me

hi adam going over your previous posts i thought about the tps and i have been unable to find one .logic told me it must be somewhere near the other end of the acceleraror cable . on my old scorp that was eaily visible on top of the injector pump but this one has a totally different looking pump anf i can find no trace of the accelerator cable which must exist somewhere out of sight i gin to wonder if a diesel has a tps --thanks for those reference links by the way i have ordered a gunson code reader which must come in handy although i will need to locate the diagnostic lead plug on the scorp before i can use it - nothing on a scorp is ever quite where you expect it to be even the fuel cut off reset switch isnt in the boot of the estate car where the saloon one was but i expect its there somewhere

I may be wrong but don't think the later ones have an accelerator cable.

Yes you are right. Our rare later models are "fly by wire".
The TPS if I recall correctly will be built into the accelerator pedal.
I had similar symptoms as you have described with a faulty EGR.
Estate safety/cut off switch located behind rear O/S light compartment.
OBD II has to be located within 2ft from steering wheel.
All ours located in same place. Behind drivers coin tray.

i find the fly by wire concept scary but it explains why i cant find the cable thanks for the other info i wouldnt have thought of looking behind the coin tray -i am sure the access lead in the sierra is in the engine compartment probably limited to static testing -i never needed to know because its never gone wrong in 100000 miles---its also useful to know where the safety cut off switch is in my estate

These are still OBDI on EECIV. Your Gunson reader may connect directly to our OBDI but as with your Sierra, engine access point may still be an option.

I believe our late autos have different PCM's than early Manual models as well.
These Diesel auto's are a true Frankenstein.

Oh yes nearly forgot Bernard. These VM's do well on WVO.
I run 100% WVO. Dewatered and filtered to one micron.
HMRC allow 2500ltrs pa duty free. Thank you ma Lord. Simple record keeping only, no double ledgers required.
