Title: Need help working out PATS please
Post by howiedintheplace on Jan 30th, 2013, 11:07pm
Hi all been a while since I have been on here ;D

I am doing a write up on the Scorpio PATS system & need to confirm what I think is right.

Nothing here will help a thief so don't panic!

So I need your help please.

Also please only answer if you have a 24V as the others are different.

This is PATS as I see it:

24v only.

94      to 11/97  PATS B fitted with ISO Network.
11/97 to 5/98    PATS B fitted with SCP Network.
5 /98  to end     PATS C fitted with SCP Network.

Simply answer this please.

What is the build date of your car & does it have a red key plus two black or just two black.

Also can someone take a picture of the first PATS module fitted 94 to 11/97 starting with 95GB.
Whole unit sticker side.

Thanks.

I can't answer your question but it is good to see you back on the site. :)  It is indeed many moons since I recall you posting. Good to know all that knowledge is still 'on tap.   :)  IIRC they were about ballooning rads and purpose built exhausts?.

1995 Build

1 red 2 black

I know it should go without saying.............but just to avoid confusion..........

To clarify Dave's request above, he means what keys it should have come with and not what you actually got with it  ;D  ;D

And Matt's done the picture thanks  ;)

Cheers Dave

Thanks to who responded 8)

Well the manuals I have been looking at are wrong because I have figured out

24V BOB Scorpio's only!

94 - 11/97
Use PATS A with J1850/SCP Vehicle Communication Network.
Issued with RED master key & two black slave keys.
Engine will run with 1 key programmed & also 1 key needed to program another key.
ECU can be changed with out affecting PATS.

Now interested in cars after 11/97 if anyone can cofirm you just got 2 black keys with them cars ;D

Then there is the thing with the speedo's around 5/98?

You sure on the year mate as all the info I have here points too just two black keys from the start of 98.

Is that a build date or registered date?

Registered date 14/05/98. Just checked on Burton power site and it was built april 98. I have never tried the red key, will try later.

Could it be a odd one made with some old parts off the older scorpio's? I saw mentioned on another thread that towards the end of production they did this with doors etc

Just guessing but people may be able to get the information via OBD.
The picture below is what I get on my 2.3 using OBD-2 software via enhanced from the info tab.
Looking here:
http://www.atpelectronics.co.uk/c/ford-scorpio-petrol-ecu

they all seem to have the same central ref (12A650) for the part no so where mine shows 96GBDD it would appear to be 96GB-12A650-DD
ZEAL

So possibly checking against that web page you’ll be able to tell from the last 2 letters of the part no. HC = EXIT, HD = EXAM etc

That is odd!

Does Burton Power have a reg checker now or something then?

Your car should only have two black keys.

I know it's a bit of hassle so it's upto you if you want to check but I will have to conclude your car is unexplained so void  ;D

If you want to check:

A OBD2 scanner can be used as described above.

Look for the PATS module if it starts with 95 it's old type if 98 it's new type.

ECU catch code as Dave says above.

The way it programs.

If it only needs one key to program another it's old type.

If you have to insert 2 keys to program another it's the later PATS & the red key means nothing.

Or you can send me the vin number.
