Title: Charging Fixed! Post by Mike H on Mar 5th, 2013, 11:29am Turned out thick wire from alternator B+ to battery was bad, intermittent contact. Alt was swapped as well but original probably still OK, but as I'd got the spare (fr. Spikies), might as well put it on. Symptoms were - Battery discharged after a week of (very) occasional use, always needs charger to recover. Holds charge if car not used (is not a current drain). Won't charge when engine running, or might only if it feels like it, depends. Volts may be random between 11.? to 13.?. Total electrical failure on a longer journey, but recovers after a few seconds. Had this happen twice, 1st time 2 years ago! I can now see that this was a case of running on batt only until the Voltage difference was so big that it forced the bad alternator wire to conduct, then it would work again. Anyway dash diagnostic display now reads 14.1 on idle. Result http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/images/misc/yes_smiley.gif HTH |

Title: Re: Charging Fixed! Post by Mike H on Mar 5th, 2013, 5:17pm Ta muchly, hoped it would be useful 'cause it has been difficult to tie down what exactly was going on. Forgot to mention, dash warning light always worked normally, so you'd think it's not a charging problem, yes? lol .. ;D |

Title: Re: Charging Fixed! Post by Mike H on Mar 5th, 2013, 5:27pm Er you didn't mention in the 'How To' version it was caused by a bad B+ cable. Otherwise lovely |
