Evening all

Been thinking about my leather electric front seat, and how it will recline but not raise the rear again.

I can hear the motor whirring away, but the back of the seat does not move. I have had to manually raise it, which took nearly 2 hours and removal of the seat from the car, and boy are they heavy.

From what I could see, there is only the 1 motor that operates the back of the seat. There being 2 underneath the actual seat itself for the other movements. So how come it works one way but not the other?

Does anybody have a diagram of the seat parts, so that I can get a handle on what's inside it please?

I have had a look through those before I took the seat out the first time, and they certainly helped, thanks :)

I was kinda hoping that someone may have had a similar problem and took some pictures of the internals and explain what they found.

From my initial fix I can see the 1 motor and the gearing. I had to loosen off the motor in order to manually wind the seat back up-rite, as the motor drives 1 gear which then drives another, hence the reason you cannot give it a helping hand in-situ, the gearing ratio defeats you.

The thing that puzzles my brain is if its the 1 motor and 1 set of gears, and all appears to be present and correct, no missing teeth etc, why only work in one direction?

Could it be the switch then ?. I imagine it simply switches the current direction?. ???

have your tried changing the seat control modual? the back rest motor is similar to a sunroof motor. it has a large nylon wheel with a metal ped that drives it. Id of though if the nylon wheel had failed it wouldnt move in any direction or your hear it 'skipping'

Looking at the diagrams as Mike imagined the non memory ones work by reversing the polarity at the switch.
The memory ones also reverse polarity but the connections pass through the module located under the seat.

Test your motor by wiring directly to the battery - both ways.
Trace the plugs/wiring back to the module connector for continuity.
I’ve seen this problem reported a few times & if I remember correctly it’s been the module at fault.
Poor solder joints aren’t unknown so it may be worth tracing along the circuit board with the aid of a magnifier to try & find a dry joint.
The current drawn when lifting someone leaning on the seat back will be higher so it could be an overloaded component failing within the module.

Trouble is having re-read his first post it probably isn't relavent since he says "I can hear the motor whirring away, but the back of the seat does not move."

If I get time I'll try & look at an old seat I have.

All good advice, and if I have to take the seat out and apart, pictures will be forthcoming :)

The dry joint might be a contender, as you mention, it probably takes more to raise the seat then lower it, so I shall be looking at the modules circuit board at the weekend hopefully.
