Title: Crank position sensor wiring problem?
Post by wolfblood on Apr 29th, 2013, 12:39pm
Hi Everyone

following on from my earlier posts (Fuel Pump problems) it now looks like there is a problem with the wiring on the crank position sensor.

Essentially both wires have lost their insulation as far back from the plug that we can feel.

If I am reading the following page correctly

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/24vlooms.htm

The wires from the sensor both go to something called a DIS module which looks to be mounted below the coolant expansion tank.
Is this correct and if so, rather than tracing the wires back until finding healthy insulation and wiring from there, could I just put two new wires straight from the DIS to the plug for the Crank sensor?
Cheers in advance

Have read more of the link above and it says that the crank sensor wires go to a connector numbered c110.
Do the wires split and go to both c110 and the EDIS or do the wires go to c110 and connect from there to EDIS?

The wiring diagram shows both wires from the crank sensor pass directly through C110 to the EDIS.
C110 is one of the big block connectors on the wing – you undo the central bolt to separate it.

Heya

yes you can run 2 wires directly EDIS module, which as you correctly say is under the screen washer tank.  The Sensor is polarity sensitive

when playing with running the car on a mondeo ecu i had to do exactly this

this vid i did might help

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7es4yYRQGA

stop it at 48 seconds and it shows the connections. only difference is you'll still have the EDIS plugged in (mondeo ECU has it built into it)

Cheers guys

Does the type of wire matter?
A couple of guys have said wrong wire type could act as a resistor and therefore give false readings from the sensor.

Got back home tonight at about 9 so not light enough to mess around too much but I have found the relevant wires (fifth and sixth (red white) from top of EDIS) ready to cut and strip them tomorrow. As I am colour blind I made sure a friend checked the colours for me as well as counting from the top.
Unfortunately the wire insulation by the plug connected to the Crank sensor is so corroded it is difficult for me to see which is which.
Does anyone know whether the positive terminal (pin2) is the one closest to the front of the car cooling fans or the one closest to the engine block?
Cheers
